There are plenty of examples of artificial gardens where dog urine creates a smelly, unhygienic problem. Artificial lawns make a low maintenance garden not zero maintenance garden and dealing with dog urine is an important step to keep it looking good, keeping it hygienic and fresh. Most artificial grass is backed with latex, a strong, stable material but one which will absorb pet urine so washing through with water and applying some appropriate cleaner is necessary to prevent hygiene and odour issues.

Polyurethane (PU) Backed Artificial Grass – PU will not absorb moisture, liquids or urine as latex does and so greatly reduces hygiene/odour issues associated with dogs and artificial grass (we still recommend washing through pet urine as often as possible).
