California Fire Hazards are No Match for SYNLawn Fresno

shutterstock_376155967Summer is fast approaching and California residents are well aware of the need to reduce fire hazards. Drought conditions have dried out Fresno’s natural groundcover and foliage, essentially creating tinder for the blazing sun. Wildfire risks rise exponentially in the summer, which is why California residents continue to seek fire-safe landscaping and synthetic grass options. It’s about keeping Fresno safe one property at a time. Fresno is more than a city: it’s your home.

Our artificial grass has the only Class A fire rating in the industry. This has been tested on many occasions.

On July 25th, 2015, the 14th floor Bamboo Pool area at The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Nevada went up in flames. Their decorative palm trees, cabanas and pool décor were a complete loss. Fortunately, the hotel had recently replaced their old polyethylene turf with SYNRye 211, which is made with 100 percent nylon fibers. This particular type of turf is highly recommended for high-traffic areas and is capable of withstanding heavy sun exposure. Like other SYNLawn products, SYNRye 21 has a Class A fire protection rating based on ASTM E648 testing procedures conducted by an independent lab. While everything else around the pool was left charred and broken, the SYNRye 211 simply turned black and melted. The fibers did not burn, and thus did not contribute to the fire.

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, but everyone was able to exit the pool area safely without any major injuries. The Cosmopolitan Hotel’s fire has prompted other businesses on the Las Vegas Strip to request quotes from SYNLawn

Other businesses around the U.S. have also benefited from SYNLawn’s superior fire safety ratings. The Blue Valley School District in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area faced a number of local arson fires that targeted playgrounds. Vandals used an accelerant to destroy local play areas, which left children with no place to play.

Jody Gill, the grounds coordinator at Blue Valley School District, was determined to find something safe and secure. “We had a $50,000 insurance deductible per occurrence, so obviously that gets your attention real quick to figure out a way to deal with this and stop it,” she said. “We thought let’s find something that we can protect the rubber mulch and find a way we can keep it from burning.”

Gill tested many different playground surfaces for fire safety using an accelerant. “Most of them burned and the fire spread. However, with the SYNBermuda 200 [now called SYNRye 211], the fire extinguished itself.”

The Blue Valley School District eventually decided on SYNRye 211 with TrampleZones™ to accommodate high-traffic areas around slides and swing sets. The children in that area continue to enjoy those play areas to this day – free from the fear of vandalism.
