Free Outdoor Summer Activities on Artificial Grass

Artificial grass is the perfect surface for public areas where large groups of people attend free summer activities and events.

Summer is in full swing, and that means planning entertaining activities with friends and family. Many public areas, including parks to shopping areas, host a number of free events and activities like concerts to carnivals, and artificial grass is the surface of choice since it is low maintenance and stands up to high traffic needs. Both locals and commercial clients should consider the benefits of fake turf, and these are just a few of the ways SYNLawn is being utilized for some summer fun. Outdoor Movies

Blanket? Check! Snacks? Check! Not worrying about getting wet or muddy? Double check! At least that’s true at places with synthetic grass like at National Harbor in National Harbor, Md. This waterfront plaza offers Movies on the Potomac where outdoor films are scheduled for family gatherings, date nights or a place to just relax and hang out. Like several other areas at this downtown destination, it includes SYNLawn’s SYNBermuda 200 with an 8-mm padding. This is an attractive feature that adds a layer of cushion underneath the turf so it’s even softer to sit on, lay on or play on. “The National Harbor keeps expanding, so I think they like the idea of turf all over,” said Kaitlyn Lord, one of the owners of SYNLawn Maryland. “We love going there and hearing families say how much they love it,” she added.

Children’s Carnivals

With thousands of locals enjoying the lawns every weekend, these public areas are also bound to attract lots of families. Children’s events are one way to gather the kiddos and young at heart for fun-filled activities. Main Street Square in Rapid City, S.D., includes clowns, face painting, dance, performances and so much more for their Kid’s Carnival. This downtown space features one of SYNLawn’s nylon products with the Ultra Base System so that the area can conveniently be converted into a skating rink for the winter. The artificial turf product was chosen because it’s durable, stays clean and looks realistic. “It allows the community members a fun (and safe) place for children and pets to play. The local businesses also benefit from the increased traffic, and the city will recognize a cost saving on the operational budget with a reduction in overall maintenance,” said Joe Makoutz, owner of SYNLawn of South Dakota.

Summer Concert Series

Summer concerts are a great way to enjoy local musicians or more popular music line-ups. But it can be a real pain in the grass to keep a natural lawn healthy, especially if your city is dealing with a drought. Not only do you need to accommodate large numbers of people sitting and/or dancing on the lawn, but there’s usually other equipment that needs to be set up, such as food tents, music equipment and lighting. Laying down new sod every year is costly and takes time and water too, but a synthetic lawn like the one at Park Place in Leawood, Kan., will stand up to the high traffic needs. Thanks to SYNLawn Kansas City, this oval-shaped event space features more than 6,500 square feet of SYNBermuda 211, which is velcro’d down on top of the Ultra Base System in order to be replaced with an ice rink every winter. Since SYNLawn products come with a 15-year warranty, they won’t have to worry about replacing their turf at Barkley Square for a long time.

Outdoor Fitness Classes

Let’s face it, gym memberships can get costly, so when a suburban destination like MB Financial Park at Rosemont in Rosemont, Ill., offers free fitness classes, there’s no reason not to sign up! Yoga and Zumba classes are held right in the middle of the Park’s many attractions where the grass is always green. While these types of classes may be weather permitting, the activities can continue on the turfed area if there was a prior downpour because of the quick drainage rate. Yoga mats won’t be placed on soggy areas and dancing shoes won’t get muddy thanks to the synthetic grass from SYNLawn Chicago. Products that feature our exclusive HeatBlock™ Technology are 20-percent cooler than other competitor products. That means even during hot days, the only heat you’ll feel is from working out.

Parks with Putting Greens

Whether you’re a tourist or resident of New York City, chances are you’ve been to Bryant Park. This scenic landmark in Midtown Manhattan is known for its free events and more than 30 games. In May 2013, the park added The Green, an outdoor area with a five-hole putting green and Kubb, a game that’s similar to lawn bowling. The installations done by SYNLawn New York allow people to enjoy these games at the park free of charge. Players of all levels can practice their short-game techniques on the golf greens, participate in tournaments or even learn from experts during putting green workshops.
