How Do You Join Artificial Grass?

Many installation problems arise when it comes to artificial grass, but they needn’t be a problem, knowing exactly what to do can help to minimise the installation time and effort. To join artificial grass there are certain materials that need to be bought to ensure that the join remains in place throughout the lifespan of the grass.

First Things First- Buy the Right Materials to Join the Artificial Grass

Specialist artificial grass glue and tape are available from Lion Lawns. Tape to join artificial grass is £1 a linear metre or £70 for 100 linear metres. The tubes of glue cover 3 linear metres and are priced at £7 per tube + VAT. The 10kg tubs which cover 20-25 linear metres, are priced at £50 per tub + VAT (please not prices are correct as of 19/7/17 and are subject to change).

Placing the Artificial Grass in Position for Joining

One of the most common mistakes when it comes to how you join artificial grass is when the grass is in opposite positions which means the grass blades are facing away from each other. They should always be in the same direction otherwise the join will be noticeable. There should be a very straight line cut which allows the grass to be placed together and flowing nicely so that it looks like one piece of turf. A great way to ensure this, is to look at the markings on the back of the turf to make sure that in between the join has the same spacing as every other line.

Artificial Grass Joining Tape

The edges of the artificial grass should be folded back and the tape to be rolled out in between them, under where the artificial grass would sit. Use a scraper to then spread the artificial grass joining glue along the tape. Then carefully work your way along the artificial grass joining in together ensure no lumps/bumps or ripples appear whilst doing so.
