Pet Clean Up Is A Mess; Try Fake Grass Instead

Just about the time you finally get your grass to green up, your dog – or your neighbor’s – does his thing on it. And, sure enough, there comes another ugly yellow spot. The next thing you know, it’ll be a dead patch. Maybe you should try fake grass instead, because pet clean-up is a mess, in more ways than one.

Pet mess is unsanitary

Aside from its obvious deficiencies of sight and smell, pet excretions pose health dangers for your family as well as your pet if not cleaned up. Among other things, dog and cat poop can contain Salmonella, E. coli, Giardia, and roundworms or hookworms. It also attracts flies. Clean-up might be a mess, but it’s certainly better than the alternative.

Re-growing your lawn is an investment opportunity

You have to invest more maintenance time and expense in products to repair pet-caused problems. To reduce mess, you could invest in an in-ground waste digester system. It’s like a composter for pet poop so you don’t have to place the offending you-know-what in your garbage. Of course, you still have to pick it up in order to put it in the digester.

Oh, wait. Are you uncertain how to remove “pet piles” from your lawn? Perhaps this is your first dog or cat. Wikihow advises that “you should take some time to learn how to properly pick up and dispose of your dog’s poop.” They’ve even created a 15-step guide, complete with illustrations. Seriously.

One dog expert recommends replacing your lawn with a “urine-resistant” variety of grass. You want urine-resistant grass? Try fake grass instead.

Some people suggest feeding your pet special products that neutralize nitrogen in their urine. Why make it your dog’s job to fix your lawn problem? The truth is, prolonged drought and other stressors make grass far more susceptible to damage from pets and any number of other things. In fact, those brown spots could be caused by insects or disease. Besides, aren’t we all aiming for fewer weird chemicals in our own and our pets’ food?

Just how much time and energy do you want to devote to becoming an expert on the finer points of dog poop? Or cat poop? And your lawn! You may decide that it’s easier and less time-consuming to ignore those yellow, burned spots than to invest in expensive lawn-recovery products. It’s one more type of lawn maintenance you can jettison if you try fake grass instead.

With fake grass, life is simpler ­­– less messy

Your pet still has to go somewhere, but if he chooses your synthetic turf lawn, so what? The fake grass won’t burn, discolor, or die. It will look as pretty post-event as it did before. Pet urine runs right through, just like rain. Doggie solids are easy to pick up and dispose of, however you prefer. Rinse with the hose, and your fake grass will remain fresh as the proverbial daisy.

And let’s not forget that cleaning up after your pet is an indoor activity as well as a yard concern. Muddy paw prints, dirt, dust and debris . . .  you can say goodbye to most of that if you try fake grass instead. (Shoes and your kids’ clothing will stay cleaner, too.)

Think of all the money you’ll save on floor cleaner, mop covers, laundry products, etc. Think of all the time you’ll regain – you could grab a good book, a tasty beverage, and a comfy chair and relax in the shade on your fake grass instead.
