Rebate Programs Have Returned for Parts of California

2015 was a record breaking year for water restrictions in California. The entire state was mandated to reduce their water usage or be subject to hefty fines. This drought significantly increased the demand for synthetic turf in California, especially since cash rebates were established as an incentive to eliminate natural grass lawns.  Thankfully, 2016 brought more rain and the severity of the drought eased. While residents were still encouraged to preserve water, the stringent restrictions lifted, the government-offered rebates expired and Californians enjoyed a couple years of mild to moderate drought conditions. Unfortunately, it seems 2018 is on track to be similar to 2015. Lake levels are half of what they should be and water restrictions are once again in place. However, there is one bright side to the severity of the California drought – rebate programs are also back for certain areas.

For as long as monies last, you can get cash rebates for converting your water thirsty natural grass lawn to synthetic turf. If you have been contemplating an artificial lawn, now is the time to act. In 2015, the rebate programs ran out rather quickly. So, you need to get your projects submitted as soon as possible to ensure there are still funds for your rebate. An overview of the service areas and the programs that they offer are below*, but every one requires your project get approved prior to removing the existing landscape. Be sure to contact your local water provider to get the process started.

• City of Lompoc – rebates up to $1,000
• City of Buellton – $1.00 per square foot, up to $750
• Goleta Water District – 50% of the cost of artificial turf, up to $750
• City of Santa Barbara – 50% of the materials cost, up to $1,000
• Carpinteria Valley Water District – $500
