Step by Step Guide on How to Lay Synthetic Grass

Synthetic grass or artificial lawn is becoming the lawn of choice amongst property owners around the globe. Its cost-effectiveness coupled with its maintenance-free properties are just a few reasons why artificial turf is so popular amongst both residential and commercial property owners.

Before we look at how to install synthetic grass, let’s have a look at what artificial turf is.
What is synthetic grass?
Artificial grass consists of a mat of synthetic fibers that looks like natural grass. It was originally used only for sports’ fields; however, it is now being utilized in commercial and residential applications as well as for sports’ arenas.
Purchasing and installing synthetic grass
Before you purchase synthetic lawn, you need to measure out the area that you would to install the artificial grass in. It’s important to work out the exact square meterage before you shop around for the best price. Suppliers will sometimes give you a discounted price per square meter based on the size of the area you need to cover.
There are a number different artificial lawn suppliers; some are more expensive than others. If you shop around, you canbuy affordable artificial turf in Sydney. It’s important to note that expensive artificial lawn does not necessarily equate to quality turf. There are supplies who provide quality, cost-effective synthetic grass.
Once you have purchased the synthetic lawn, you need to prepare the surface area before you lay the turf. Here is a step-by-step guide to installing your artificial grass:

Remove the existing turf/grass. You need to remove the existing soil and grass to a depth of about 40mm.
Spread a 35mm layer of builder’s sand over the area you have cleared. This will act as a base for the synthetic lawn.
Level and compact the surface of the builder’s sand. It’s important to spread and compact the sand evenly to ensure a solid base for the artificial turf.
Place a weed membrane across the top of the compacted builder’s sand. This will prevent weeds from growing up through your newly laid turf.
When you lay the grass, lay it with the pile leaning toward your house or commercial building. The artificial grass blades do not stand up straight, so by laying the lawn with the pile leaning towards your house, it will look full and natural when you are viewing it from your home or commercial building.
The artificial lawn comes in rolls, so when you roll it out to cover the area, ensure that the ends of the grass rolls are staggered so that they don’t end in one line. Trim the edges of the rolls with a craft knife.
When you are laying the lawn, ensure that the grass rolls are laid in the same direction and the blades of grass all point the same way. Lay the rolls next to each other making sure that there are no blades caught in between each roll.
Use the supplied joining tape to glue the rolls together. Add adhesive to the tape and place the edges of two adjoining rolls onto the tape. Again, make sure that the are no blades of grass caught in between each roll.
Fix the edges of the turf by inserting ground pins into the ground. This ensures that the edges of the lawn do not roll up.
Finally, brush the grass pile with a stiff brush; thereby, ensuring a full and natural look.Final Thoughts
