SYNLawn: Congressional Inauguration

Democrats and Republicans don’t agree on much, but when they do it’s on SYNLawn! This playground project was an unprecedented BI-PARTISAN effort of the highest members in our House of Representatives and the most important government project, as stated by the architectural firm for the project, on Capitol Hill in 2018.  The senior most levels of the House of representatives personally chose SYNLawn for this critical project designed to attract and retain top talent, offering them the best experience and affordability for child care close to work. 

This project has paved the way to a possible sister project in the Senate in 2019 and will provide better working environment/benefit for federal workers in the House and the Senate. This is the first project of its kind in our nation’s history, where synthetic turf and SYNLawn are a vital part of the value ad to important members of government and their children. The notoriety of this project not only brings to light that synthetic turf has become the preferred alternative in landscape applications, but it shows the large scope on which this industry has substantially advanced in recent years to offer an environmentally sound, safe, and sustainable solution. 

This specific $12 million project represents only the first phase of this facility which is designed to care for up to 120 infants and toddlers. The second phase will be able to accommodate an additional 122 students. This facility greatly minimizes our country’s disadvantage of losing extremely qualified employees due to lack of affordable childcare. Many extremely competent employees are forced to leave for more lucrative positions in the private sector due to affordable childcare. Congress also firmly believes that this will open politics and its possibilities to more women. This childcare development will be available to all personnel extending them the opportunity and ability to remain serving the American people & raising a family at the same time.  

SYNLawn is honored to become a part of U.S. History having been a part of the extension & modification of the United States House of Representatives on Capitol Hill which now boasts a brand new 26,000 square foot state-of-the-art child care facility featuring synthetic landscape turf over a shock absorbing pad underlayment system within the intricate design of a kid-sized National Mall. 

 Using our own manufactured product, SYNAugustine (SA347), which is polyethylene based with the soft omega shape. This face fiber has superiority in softness, reduced abrasion, & superior fiber elasticity so the fiber will bounce back to its regular shape and stay upright longer. The Architect of the Capitol and other decision makers specifically said this was one of the key components in choosing SYNLawn. 

 The combination of our shock absorbing pad and turf have a fall height rating of 10’ ensuring the children’s safety when playing on the turf in the facility.  One advantageous point is it allows us to control the level of safety tailored approach to safety – we can add a pad and guarantee superiority safety performance. SYNLawn extensively tests every component used in our installations. Our fall pad consists of homogenous cross-linked polyethylene possessing consistent impact attenuation from edge to edge.  

 The pad and turf are secured to a surrounding perimeter board made from recycled plastic and provided LEED points for the facility.  The synthetic turf has an intricate design which included 5’ strips running in multiple directions and around playground equipment and over mounds and boulders.  Specifically, one mound was very high and had a slide running through it, requiring great attention to detail and proved extremely time consuming and complex. 

SYNLawn anxiously awaits the commencement of phase two in this extraordinary endeavor. We consider this a substantial milestone as our country clearly believes, and agrees, that synthetic turf is the optimal choice for budgetary reasons, maintenance, and most importantly, their children. SYNLawn has no doubt that the exceptionally positive results from the House of Representatives in 2018 will manifest into many other government projects which will only elevate and promote that synthetic turf is the safest and most viable option of the future.
