The California Drought: It’s Real!

If you live in California, especially the beautiful SoCal, then you don’t have to be watching the daily news to know we are in a serious drought. So serious that #DroughtShaming has been trending on Twitter and Instagram. Search this hashtag and you will find drought-conscious citizens snapping real-time photos of neighbors or businesses who are excessively flooding their yards and landscapes. The over-use of water is now a social taboo in our area, because it’s up to us humans to conserve the water we have!

The first steps we learn are shorter showers, conscious-dishwashing, and of course brushing your teeth without the water running. While these are all effective in helping to conserve our water, what is a long term action that will not only conserve but combat this drought for once and for all?! SYNTHETIC LAWNS! With California’s Governor Brown issuing a mandate to replace 50 million square feet of lawns throughout the state with drought tolerant landscaping has really impelled California residents to explore water wise choices for their yards and businesses. According to the EPA, “Nationwide, landscape irrigation is estimated to account for nearly one-third of all residential water use, totaling nearly 9 billion gallons per day.” With that in mind, there are several state and local agencies that actually pay you to re-vamp your yard with synthetic grass with hefty rebates.

Synthetic lawns and yards are not only drought-tolerant but aesthetically pleasing! The turf used is 100% recyclable and reduces each consumer’s carbon footprint by conserving water and eliminating emissions from lawn equipment. Say good-bye to your noisy gardeners early Friday morning, because your lawn no longer needs to be cut and manicured! So you not only save on your water utility bill but maintenance time and costs as well. Have green grass all year around with no water use and little maintenance. Add pavers, stones and succulents to have a trendy, chic front yard for your neighbors to be jealous of and your Earth to be proud of as well.
