The Process of Installing Artificial Grass with our Project in Coulby Newham

Recently we have been in Coulby Newham, Teesside where a previous rockery and very uneven surface was completely removed and replaced with Lion Lawns artificial grass. This step by step process shows that it certainly isn’t just a case of laying artificial grass on a layer of sand and pinning it down. There are very particular steps that must be followed to make sure that the grass is put down perfectly so it is likely to have a much longer lifespan.

1. Plan Ahead

The first, and probably most important step is planning. Never rush into an artificial grass garden installation. There are several ways in which things can be done, e.g. the way in which you lay the artificial grass. Therefore, planning is necessary when installing artificial grass to come up with the most cost-effective solution. Know what you want and know the grass type you are looking for.

2. Edging

Edging is a crucial part of the process. This will help to hold the base but also acts as a secure measure to fix the artificial grass to in step 5.

3. Membrane

A membrane should be laid on the surface to prevent any weeds from going through. We suggest to not use this part of the process to try and save the pennies, you will be thankful for choosing a high-quality membrane even if it is slightly more expensive.

4. Baseworks

There are plenty of ways to create a base on top of the membrane and in between the edging. It needs to be secure, compacted and won’t move when walked on.

5. Fitting

Fitting is actually one of the quickest parts of the process. The best artificial grasses out there are easier to cut as they are more flexible and better to work with. For an easier time, use a British manufactured product like this Finesse artificial grass below:

6. Infill and brushing

The surface should be powerbrushed with special machinery and infilled with a silica sand (or similar product). This is also a very important part of the process. Be wary of turf types that don’t require any infill. Check the durability to make sure it doesn’t go flat.

7. Love the Final Result

And the client was thrilled with their new garden,

“I never thought my garden could look like this. Previously it was built up and ridden with weeds. It was so difficult to mow but now I don’t have to worry about any of that. I am pleased to look out of my window and see such a wonderful job very well done! Thank you so much to the Lion Lawns team… And it only took half a day!”

NEVER- Accept a product that the manufacturer/supplier cannot offer warranties/guarantees for. There are plenty out there that do including Lion Lawns who offer an 8 year product warrant and 10 years UV stabilisation

NEVER- Skip a step in the process

NEVER- Assume a base with a ‘bit of give’ or unsteadiness will be suitable for the artificial grass

ALWAYS- Be patient, you will be thankful for it in the end
