The Santiago International Airport Praises AvTurf

The new AvTurf installation at the Santiago International Airport in Santiago, Chile has surpassed the airport’s expectations. Known to be the 6th largest and busiest airport in South America, the international airport has undergone the VINCI Group’s largest building construction worldwide. With an increase of air traffic jumping up to 8.3% between the months of January to November of 2018, the $930 million project will double the capacity of the airport as part of its adaptation to an ever-growing society. By 2020, the airport will host 30 million passengers annually. Nuevo Pudahuel entrusted Act Global to assist the airport’s rapid growth with the use of AvTurf.

The VINCI Airports strives to keep the environment safe and clean. That’s why Act Global’s AvTurf has quickly become the ideal product for their project. AvTurf’s aviation turf backing creates a strong barrier to potential burrowing wildlife to keep runway paths and safety zones clear for the airport’s operations. It can withstand powerful jet blasts while remaining secure and intact for 15+ years, minimizing delays in takeoff and landings while most importantly keeping the runway clear from debris. This is particularly important as it removes the frequent maintenance of regular grass due to erosion from heavy jet blasts. AvTurf reduces wear and tear on planes to improve overall life expectancy and can withstand ultra-heavy loads. The product has a lack of flammability while also having the ability to accommodate high rainfall rates.
