Turf Supplied To Glasgow Green For Large Refurbishment Project

Find out more about returfing Glasgow Green – the oldest public park in Britain

Turfonline’s parent Company, Harrowden Turf, are proud to have been chosen to supply 3,800m2 of Jubilee Turf to Glasgow City Council.  The deal was struck by our team in Scotland and we’ve had some superb feedback from the guys on site.

About the Glasgow Green Project

Glasgow City Council needed to returf an area of grass which was damaged during the “Transmit” music festival.  Transmit is a 3 day festival in July which attracts up to 50,000 visitors per day.  Can you imagine how much damage that can do to even the hardiest grass? Brilliant fun though and exactly what Glasgow Green is there for.

Customer service ensured project success

Mark Coburn from Harrowden Turf and Paul Brannan from Glasgow City Council on met site to chat about the project and make plans.  Because it was such a large order, the turf was delivered in batches over the course of 2 days.  This allowed the 15 strong team of landscapers a good chance to lay it promptly.   (We’ve blogged elsewhere about  the importance of aying turf as soon as it is delivered. )

Unsurprisingly, our delivery driver Bill Findlay was praised by the landscapers for his outstanding customer service.  As usual, Bill went above and beyond what was expected.  He also took these amazing pictures, for which we are very grateful.

Glasgow Green, part of Britain’s heritage

Glasgow Green is an amazing space in the centre of Glasgow .  It claims to be the oldest public park in Britain because the land for the park was granted in 1450 by King James II.  It’s 55 Ha of beautifully manicured plants, paths, lawns and play space. And it’s free to use for the people living in, working in and visiting the area.

Almost finished. Now all that remains to be done is watering.

The current layout dates for 1828.  And thanks to the Glasgow Renewal Project the park has been restored to it’s former glory over the last 10 years.  Glasgow Green is now a popular venue for all kinds of events.

In 2011 Glasgow Green was awarded Green Flag Status.  Green Flag is the international mark of quality for parks and green spaces.
