Winning Edge Academy – Chooses All Seasons Synthetic turf

Steve met with Shane to discuss the academy needs and CoolPlay in Olive green with white lines inserted was chosen for the facility. All Seasons Synthetic Turf was chosen to complete the project due to our industry reputation, Australian made products and 15 year warranty. Steve from All Seasons Synthetic Turf said ‘ it is fantastic to be part of such a great project, we recommended CoolPlay  CoolPlus turf because it is tough and durable, yet not prickly underfoot and of course it is 100% Australian made”

COOLPLAY COOLPLUS TECHNOLOGY  comes in a variety of colours, yellow, white, pink, greens, blues, terracotta, purple, orange and red.

Our Commercial Manager Stix and our Installation manager Tom really enjoyed working with Shane to complete the installation

WOEWODIN’S NEW COACHING ROLE

SHANE WOEWODINhas turned down an opportunity to Coach WAFL side Swan Districts in 2018 and will instead move into a full time position asHead of Football at Winning Edge Academy.

The Brownlow Medalist returned to Perth at the start of 2017 after a six year stint as an AFL Assistant Coach with the Brisbane Lions. With their Children approaching an important point in their schooling, Shane and wife Dee decided now was the right time to move the family home to live in Western Australia.

Woewodin, who played 200 AFL Games with Melbourne and Collingwood, has also worked as a Head Coach at NEAFL level with the Lions and in the WAFL at East Fremantle (2008-10). He is well regarded in the coaching fraternity and has a genuine passion for developing athletes not just as a footballers but also as a people- something which also reflects the overarching philosophy at WEA.

Securing someone of Shane’s calibre as our Head of Football going forward is an incredible coup for Winning Edge and Company Director Luke Cunningham is looking forward to working with him to develop a long term vision for the Football Program:

“To have someone at the helm who made it to the final two in the selection process for the National AFL Academy coaching position last year (Received by Brisbane Lions Premiership Player Luke Power) is kind of surreal to be honest. We are incredibly fortunate to have Shane and will certainly make the most of the opportunity.”

One of Woewodin’s primary roles will be as the Head Coach of WEA’s newHigh Performance Academies (Selective) for Boys aged 12 and 13.With just 24 players selected in each of the teams (North Metro and South Metro) the program offers a once in a lifetime chance for athletes to work with one of the country’s top coaches at a formative age. While at odds with the way things have traditionally done in WA- it is something that is readily available throughout Victoria and is producing some of the game’s most exciting young talents.

In addition to this, Shane will also coordinate WEA Football’s development programs which provide Boys and Girls of all abilities with access to a high level of coaching in an attempt to improve the skills of junior footballers throughout the state.

School Holiday Camps and Off Season Programs are available to help support the great work being done by the volunteer coaches at club level. “We simply want to help kids develop their skills and one or two hours of club coaching per week makes it super tough for all involved,” said Mr Cunningham- a former PE teacher and current Assistant Coach of the WA Boys 12yrs AFL team.

“Footy is a complex game which requires a base level of skill to play effectively.
The biomechanics of kicking in Australian Rules Football, there are just so many different elements to consider. Having coaches like Shane, Anthony Morabito, Troy Longmuir etc in our ranks (along with teachers) means Children receive the right technical cues and things to practice to improve their skills.”

Woewodin will look to continue his work in the media with ABC radio and coaching at grass roots level for North Fremantle in the WAAFL.
