2017 Bowl Games PostPost-season college football is upon us with bowl games kicking off this weekend.  A total of 40 bowl games will lead to the final event of the 2017 NCAA Division I FBS football season: the 2018 College Football National Championship.  This year’s competition will be extra fierce, as this is only the second time in the past 9 years where no teams with losing seasons have been invited to compete.  Act Global is excited to have teams from across the nation competing on our synthetic turf systems in the coming month.

Mercedes-Benz SuperdomeDecember 16: New Orleans Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Superdome

The 9-4 North Texas Mean Green will face off against the 10-2 Troy Trojans at 12:00 PM CST, December 16.  North Texas currently ranks #19 in the nation for their offense, with 467 yards per game.  However, even though Troy ranks #26 in defense, a stronger defensive line tends to be a key indicator of who will be the winner.  The old Sunbelt Conference foes haven’t met since 2012, which UNT’s final year in the conference where Troy earned an 8-2 edge over UNT.

Aloha Stadium Sidelines RetBURNEDDecember 24: Hawaii Bowl at Aloha Stadium

The Fresno State Bulldogs (9-4) and Houston Cougars (7-4) will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii for their postseason matchup at 7:30 PM CST on December 24.  The Cougars have performed well this season after losing their former head coach, including games against Power 5 teams.  The Bulldogs have heavily relied on defense throughout the season, and this will continue to be true going into the postseason.  This month’s match will be Fresno State’s first bowl game since 2014, where they lost to take their record to 10-13, whereas Houston has competed in a bowl in each of the past five straight seasons and hold an 11-13 record.

January 1: Sugar Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Superdome

The Superdome will be hosting its second bowl game of the post on January 1st at 7:45 PM CST.  The semifinal match in the college football playoffs will pin #4 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide against #1 ranked Clemson Tigers.  Not only will the teams be competing for a spot in the championship, but the game will act as a rematch for Alabama after last year’s upsetting defeat by Clemson.  Although the game is just under three weeks away, there have been predictions of Alabama earning a narrow victory and therefore justifying the committee’s decision to place Alabama in the final playoff position.
