Playing football in my garden: can I?

Can I kick around a ball in my garden? my neighbour is telling me to stop, but I'd like to know where I stand legally.

Don't know if it changes anything, but I am renting, the house is not mine.

thanks

On what grounds is he telling you to stop?

Are you intruding on his land or hitting the ball against his property?
One hundred years from now it won't matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little better because, I was important in the life of a child.

To answer your question fully can you tell me the answer to 3 questions please 1... Size of your garden in Square metres 2....Circumference of football in centimetres 3....Name of your local council

I will then look up the relevant by law for your area

I would check with your landlord, and see if they have any objections, they may also know whether the neighbour is a general pain in the......
    I had a plan..........its here somewhere.

My son's play football in the garden and kick the ball into a football net. Accassionally it has gone into a neighbours garden and the family next door to us have kicked balls into our garden. We just throw the balls back. I know some elderly neighbours do not like it and can undestand if people are doing shift work they may wish to sleep in piece. When my Husband worked shifts I made sure my son's were quite in the garden. But under todays climate I would preferre my children to be playing football in the garden where they are safe than out on the streets where some children play kicking balls at cars etc. There will always be miserable people who do not like to see anyone having fun. I would continue playing football but try to insure there is not to much noise at the end of the day we all need to be considerate to our neighbours but unfornately there is no pleasing some people and they just like to have a good moan.

I can understand if the ball keeps banging and banging against his wall, he was on nights and trying to get to sleep etc but we live in rented also and have 2 kids that play football/basketball in the garden and yes the ball sometimes goes over but it just gets thrown back ..
Kids will and do play in back gardens with balls, ask him what his problem is?!

Another point of view....my next door neighbours last year frequently played football in their garden with a proper heavy football. As well as hitting our fence, the ball kept coming into our garden.

I did 'moan', this was due to my young daughter (3 at the time), playing in our garden......can you just imagine how forceful a 12/13 yr old boy can kick a heavy football and if it had hit her?

I don't care if people think I'm miserable......I'm just aware of my DD's safety.

Incidentally if my DS son wanted to play football, he went to the park.

I also think there is a distinction between 1 person having a kick about and a few playing football.

very good point there is, if there are a few mates playing and talking that is a whole different thing...
I also had in another end house the ball in my garden all the time, the kids used to climb the fence to get it and once they kicked it over so hard the BBQ we were eating in the garden at the time landed on the floor!!

    Thanks.

I would say 38 square metres, size 5 football (60 cm circumference).
    Local council: Islington (London)
I play alone. I do not make much noise, but I make some. Much less than all the screaming, car and air traffic , and construction noise that you can hear around our neighboorhood during the day anyway

I do almost doing kick ups or short runs. But I like the odd free kick, hitting the tree.
I am not hitting their fence. I am hitting the wall at the end of my garden, and occasionally the tree also in my garden. I have never sent the ball across, but it could happen one day: what would the consequences be?

    What time can I play?

There's an old lady sitting on a chair in a neighbouring garden; she is not in any danger of being hit. She just complains that I should not play...

Her daughter told me to go to the park in a very bad way. I told her to "get a life". She told me to "!!!! off" literally.

I am not sure I want to give up just to avoid problems ... In my garden! Perhaps too stressful like this though.

Just to clarify, I am 31 (not sure why that should change anything!).

    thanks
    mr
