Why Artificial Grass is Better For The Environment

A lush, thick and green lawn is every homeowner’s dream. The kids and the pets can play around on the lawn and it adds to the cosmetic appeal of any home. So desirable is a perfect lawn that is has become a competition of sorts among neighbors, especially in the suburbs, to see who can have the more” perfect-looking “lawn.

What is unknown to most is that, in their quest to have that perfect garden or lawn, they may be putting their own health at risk. How? Through the use of lawn care chemicals.

Real Lawn and Chemicals

A lot goes into taking care of a lawn. Often, this will involve the use of chemicals of different grades and strengths.

Non-organic fertilizers, for one, are chemicals. You want your grass to grow longer and faster? Fertilizers are a go-to for that.  Secondly, are the herbicides and pesticides, which will kill those pesky weeds and insects and other pests that keep your grass from growing well.

At different stages of lawn care, you may find yourself relying heavily on chemicals and because everyone wants a lush garden all year round, this means going through the cycle several times every year.

Chemical Toxicity

Over the years, there have been a number of studies investigating just how toxic some of these lawn care chemicals are and the verdict is not good at all.  Looking at the active ingredients, studies have concluded that some of the most commonly used chemicals can be linked to birth defects, organ damage, especially the liver and kidney, some are carcinogenic, while others pose the danger of neurotoxicity.

Exposure to the Chemicals

If you are like most people, then you probably have made a hobby of taking care of your own lawn. Lazy Sundays spent out back literally getting your hands dirty and putting in all the work.  Even when you invite a lawn care company to take care of your lawn, you may still be exposed to the chemicals.

The toxic chemicals are absorbed through the skin or by breathing in vapors and sprays.  If you apply, or are present during the application of the chemicals, you may breath it in, or be exposed by touching the contaminated grass later. Children are always at a greater risk.

Why Choose Artificial Grass

Unlike natural grass, artificial grass, does not require fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides or any other chemicals. Synthetic turf is low-maintenance and because it does not grow, nor does it attract pests or weeds, you will never have to use any chemicals on your synthetic lawn. In this regard, artificial grass is a safer option compared to natural turf.

Lawn chemicals can stay in the human body for years, with doctors often misdiagnosing the symptoms of exposure as allergies and the likes.  Because prevention is always the best cure, the best remedy is to avoid contact with said chemicals, and one way to do so is to have an artificial grass lawn.  You will not only avoid the cost of lawn care chemicals, but you will be creating a safe and healthy environment for yourself, all your household and the general public.
